SCIENCE CENTER BEGINS LEADERSHIP TRANSITION
Frank Steslow, executive director and chief executive officer of Da Vinci Discovery Center of Science and Technology, Inc., announced today his plans to relocate with his family to Miami, Fla., where he will become chief operating officer of the Miami Science Museum.
Steslow's last day with the Da Vinci Science Center will be Aug. 7, three years after becoming its executive director and CEO on August 8, 2005.
Peter C. Dent, chairman of the Da Vinci Science Center's Board of Trustees, said, "We have had in Frank a dedicated and effective leader, who joined us as we opened the new Center in Oct. 2005. He has guided, in collaboration with the professional staff on board at the Center, the phenomenal growth in science educational programming available for schools and the exhibit experience to be had at the Center.
"We offer our deepest congratulations to Frank on this tremendous opportunity. The Board of Trustees will appoint a Search Committee to identify candidates nationwide that can build on the success that the Center has had in serving the region as a link to the sciences for families, students, and teachers. We are also in the process of identifying an interim director who can assist in the transition."
As COO of the Miami Science Museum (MiaSci), Steslow will oversee a growing organization that welcomes more than 250,000 visitors annually. MiaSci is in the midst of a campaign to build a new museum - including a three-story aquarium, a 300-seat planetarium, and a hands-on wildlife rehabilitation center. The new Miami Science Museum is part of a $250-$400-million revitalization effort in the city's Bicentennial Park area initiated in Nov. 2004 with a $175-million Miami-Dade County bond.
In announcing his plans, Steslow said, "It has been an honor and a privilege to work with the countless individuals who have built the new Da Vinci Science Center and have been tireless champions of science's fundamental importance in a productive and vibrant community.
"I am proud of everything we have accomplished in the past three years. Along with building a first-class destination for families, we have made a bold statement that the greater Lehigh Valley is serious about re-shaping the relationship our families, our neighborhoods, and our schools have with science and technology."
