DAN COHEN SETS RUBIK'S CUBE WORLD RECORD AT DA VINCI SCIENCE CENTER

Dan Cohen of Allentown set a new world record Saturday at the Da Vinci Science Center’s World Cube Association competition by solving a 4x4x4 Rubik’s Cube in 46.03 seconds.

The previous mark for solving the puzzle – also known as Rubik’s Revenge – was 46.63 seconds, achieved by Mátyás Kuti of Hungary in 2007. Cohen’s time represents his first world record. Cohen entered the competition as a North American record holder in three speed-cubing disciplines – the 5x5x5 Cube competition, the Pyramix competition, and the Rubik’s Clock.

Cohen, an 18-year-old Emmaus High School graduate, will be sophomore at Duquense University in the fall.

The term “speed-cubing” refers to the competitive solving of Rubik’s Cubes and similar puzzles. The Da Vinci Science Center Rubik’s Cube Competition was sanctioned by the World Cube Association (WCA). Competitors included cubers of all ages from the eastern United States and California. Prizes were awarded in several categories.
