The previous mark for solving the puzzle also known as Rubiks Revenge was 46.63 seconds, achieved by Mátyás Kuti of Hungary in 2007. Cohens time represents his first world record. Cohen entered the competition as a North American record holder in three speed-cubing disciplines the 5x5x5 Cube competition, the Pyramix competition, and the Rubiks Clock.
Cohen, an 18-year-old Emmaus High School graduate, will be sophomore at Duquense University in the fall.
The term speed-cubing refers to the competitive solving of Rubiks Cubes and similar puzzles. The Da Vinci Science Center Rubiks Cube Competition was sanctioned by the World Cube Association (WCA). Competitors included cubers of all ages from the eastern United States and California. Prizes were awarded in several categories.
