DA VINCI SCIENCE CENTER TO PRESENT EARTH DAY 2009 WARM-UP ACTIVITIES
The Da Vinci Science Center will present Earth Day 2009 warm-up activities this Sunday in advance of its April 25 event.
Supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Economic Development, the Center's Earth Day 2009 Celebration builds upon its "Yes, In My Backyard!" environmental theme. Hands-on programming will show guests how to impact on the Earth positively by making sensible changes at home.
Sunday's warm-up from 1-4 p.m. - titled "Plastic Avengers" - will show visitors how to sort plastics easily, how to re-use plastics creatively, and how others create better plastics. Visitors also will be able to make their own recycled pencil to take home. The Earth Day 2009 Main Event - from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. April 25 - will include:
ONE GIANT FOOTPRINT FOR
MANKIND
Program by the Sustainable Energy Fund will describe what a person's carbon
footprint is, and how he or she can reduce it.
GREEN TRIVIA CHALLENGE
Quizzes from the Delaware Valley Green Building Council-Lehigh Valley Branch
will test the visitor's eco-IQ.
BACKYARD BIRDS
The Lehigh Valley Audubon Society will show how families and make turn their
backyard a bird paradise.
AS THE WORMS TURN
A local author and expert will show how a household collection of wiggly worms
can help people save cold, hard cash.
TURBO TURBINES
Visitors will test turbines of different sizes to see how the Da Vinci Science
Center's turbine produces energy.
15 WAYS TO SAY YES
Visitors will receive a guide to 15 simple things they can do at home to support
the environment.
All Earth Day 2009 programming at the Da Vinci Science Center is included with paid Center admission or member entry.
Da Vinci Science Center
admission is $9.95 for adults and $7.95 for boys and girls 12 and under, seniors
62 and up, military members, and veterans.
