Winston Scott to Give Inspiring Keynote
Former
NASA Astronaut Winston E. Scott - who overcame segregation and poverty to
become a decorated U.S. Navy pilot and the second African-American to walk
in space - will give an inspiring keynote presentation at the Da Vinci Science
Center's 2010 Science Hall of Fame Awards on Saturday, April 24. Click

Tickets for the 2010 Science Hall of Fame Awards are now on sale at the
Da Vinci Science Center. Tickets are $25 for adults, and $15 for children
ages 12 and under.
The Da Vinci
Science Center's Science Hall of Fame honors high school students who hold
a deep passion for science, teachers who inspire the next generation of leaders,
and community partners who champion science throughout the greater Lehigh
Valley region.
The Science Hall of Fame
bestows the following awards as deemed appropriate each year by the Da Vinci
Science Center and its Hall of Fame selection committees. Award-winning students
and teachers receive cash scholarships. All award winners receive a Lifetime
Membership to the Da Vinci Science Center and recognition in the Center's
Science Hall of Fame exhibit.
Apprentice Award For Outstanding Science Scholarship
The Apprentice Award for Outstanding Science Scholarship honors high school
juniors and seniors who not only have excelled in science and academically,
but have sought independently to expand their knowledge and skill outside
of the classroom. Students must be nominated by a faculty member from their
respective schools.
Grand Master
Award For Outstanding Science Teaching
The Grand Master Award for Outstanding Science Teaching honors educators who
have demonstrated excellence and innovation in their teaching of science and
technology, have fostered deep and meaningful learning in their students,
and have generated exceptional student achievement. Educators can be nominated
by their school administrators, other educators, and members of the community.
Da Vinci TLI Grand
Master Award For Excellence in Inquiry-Based Instruction
The Da Vinci Teacher Leader Institute Grand Master Award for Excellence in
Inquiry-Based Science Instruction honors an institute teacher who exemplifies
the institute's work to help elementary teachers increase their science knowledge,
develop leadership skills, and integrate hands-on, inquiry-based teaching
in their classrooms.
Grand Maestro Award
For Outstanding Community Champions
The Grand Maestro Award For Outstanding Community Champions honors corporations,
scientists, and corporate leaders who have made significant contributions
to the fields of science and technology in the greater Lehigh Valley and to
the Da Vinci Science Center.
Spirit of Leonardo
Award For Outstanding Curiosity, Creativity, and Imagination
The Spirit of Leonardo Award was re-created in 2009 to honor an exceptional
young person who achieves a special harmony between science and the arts in
his or her works and passions - a harmony embodied by the life of Leonardo
da Vinci. The original Spirit of Leonardo Award was given from 2003-2006 to
recognize innovation in the practice of health care.
Spirit of Verrocchio
Award For Outstanding Mentorship
The Spirit of Verrocchio Award For Outstanding Mentorship honors a community
leader or organization whose dedicated mentorship of the Da Vinci Science
Center has contributed greatly to its development. It is named after an influential
mentor of a young Leonardo da Vinci in the 15th century.
The Science Hall of Fame also bestowed the Spirit of Discovery Award For Professional
Achievement from 1999-2000.
