About
the Teacher
Leader Institute
The Da Vinci Teacher
Leader Institute (DVI) is
a three-year, standards-
based professional
development program
for teachers of grades
K-6. Teachers
completing the program
will have deeper
knowledge of science
content, be able to
teach using inquiry,
and help their students
gain a deeper understanding of basic
science concepts and
scientific reasoning
skills. The program
conforms to National
Science Education
Standards for
professional
development and will
help teachers develop
the strong
understanding of both
science content and
science process skills
necessary to meet Pennsylvania Academic Content Standards in Science, Technology,
Environment, and Ecology. Participating teachers also provide professional
development to their peers by developing and leading a professional learning
community.
What the participants
say about the Institute
"I encourage
my colleagues to jump in and try it. The years I have spent with the Da Vinci
program have been intensive, challenging, and ultimately the most rewarding
and useful time spent in preparing me for future challenges in the classroom."
-Valerie Marcantonio, Forks Elementary School, Easton, PA
"The Da Vinci Teacher Leader Institute has been an incredible asset for me I am able to stand back and let my students take charge of their individual learning. I see growth each week as they practice skills of exploration, observation, and data collection. They love science and are always anxious for more. In my eyes that is the biggest accomplishment of all." -Patricia Williams, Ritter Elementary School, Allentown, PA
